EPDA Nutrition & Exercise Classes


El Paso Diabetes Association is offering free Nutrition and Exercise classes at the Ysleta Branch Library. They are held on Mondays, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Specific dates are October 13, 20, 27; November 3, 10, 17, 24 and Dec 1st. Presented by Angela Hernandez, BS Educator.

Teen Hangout - Dia De Los Muertos

Chess Presentation & Tournament


On October 11, 2014, Ysleta Branch Library hosted a day of Chess events, Started off with the presentation "Chess In Libraries & Schools" with Alexey Root. Champion Chess player and teacher, she showed kids and adults techniques, strategic planning, and documenting  moves. Following the presentation began the tournament with over 70 participants.

120th Anniversary/Owl's Nest Opening




On Sept. 27, 2014 the Ysleta Branch Library celebrated EPPL's 120th year anniversary with the opening of the Little Owl's Nest Computer Center. This center was newly expanded to provide an improved computer learning experience for children. Branch manager, John Faria, opened the celebration with a telling of the history of EPPL and the Ysleta Branch Library. Councilwoman Claudia Ordaz was on hand for the ribbon cutting and a storytime reading for our young patrons.













Pancho Villa Exhibit







As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Ysleta Branch Library hosted an exhibit featuring Pancho Villa. This exposition was coordinated by the great grandson of Pancho Villa

Chess Tournament


Following the Alexey Root Presentation, Ysleta Branch Library will host a Chess Tournament sponsored by Sun City Chess Academy and directed by Ruben Arzaga. The tournament will be held from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Contact Mr. Arzaga for pre-registration at 915-261-8350.

Chess in Libraries and Schools Presentation




Come to the Ysleta Branch Library on Saturday, October 11, 2014 and meet chess player, teacher and writer, Alexey Root. She is the senior lecturer in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and is the 1989 U.S. Women's Chess Champion. The Presentaion and Book Signing will begin at 10:00 am till 12 noon.
