Summer Reading Club expands to include adults:
Adults can be entered into a raffle for a Kindle eBook reader or iPad.

Starting June 8, kids, teens and now adults can take part in the El Paso Public Library’s Summer Reading Club. The club is a fun and interactive way to get the whole family reading together. The goal of the program is to encourage children to read during the summer when school is not in session. Studies show that young people who practice intellectual development such as reading over the summer are more likely to succeed in school and in life.
The club offers special reading incentives to participants such as prizes and certificates for completing the program. Adults who complete the programs will be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle eBook reader and an iPad. They can also receive a free tote bag while supplies last.

Likewise, there will be hundreds of special performances to keep the whole family entertained during the summer. Libraries will host magic shows, karaoke, interactive games, origami and sushi making workshops, trivia contests, balloon twisting exhibitions and much more. Best of all, the programs are free. There is literally no better way to spend the summer.

It’s free and easy to join! Starting June 8 just visit any public library facility and pick up list of official rules. Sign up for a library card if you don’t already have one. Check out some books and start reading. Participant will have access to a log to keep track of their reading.

Now register online! For the first time, patrons will be able to register for free online. Just visit the Library Web site starting June 8 for more information.

Kites at YS

The Ysleta Branch Library held another class on Kitemaking on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. The patrons constructed the conventional diamond designed kite and also some easier designs for the younger kids. Time to fly and have some fun!

Jaime Hernandez at YS!

Local artist Jamie Hernandez brought music and poetry to the Ysleta Branch Library on April 25, 2013. She played several original songs and wrote new songs on the spot to show our patrons how poetry and songwriting are compatible. Jamie can be found on Reverbnation, Facebook and performing in local area establishments.

YS has a New Look!

If you have been to Ysleta Branch Library lately you may have noticed that the huge tree in front is no longer there. After standing for decades, that last hard freeze was too much for the woody perennial. Workers came out and removed the leafy landmark. There will be new additions made in the near future to replace the tree.  So long old-timer.

Ysleta Branch will hold a class in desert gardening. Teaching this class will be YS staff member Martha Bocanegra. She will share the secrets and tips on how to start and maintain your own desert garden. This Family Fun Night class will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 5:00 pm. Come out and enjoy this presentation.
