YS Launches New Book Club!


Ysleta Branch Library is proud to announce the formation of a Book Club. If you like to read and want to discuss what you read with others, then the Ysleta Branch Book Club is for you. The book club meetings will be held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month here at Ysleta Branch, 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The first meeting is scheduled for June 6, 2012 6pm-7pm where you will meet and greet the club members. The first book will be The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson. To join the book club, stop by the Ysleta Branch Library and sign up at the front desk.

YS Celebrates Mother’s Day


On May 12, 2012 Ysleta Branch Library observed Mother’s Day with a celebration to honor the special ladies in all of our lives. The 45 patrons in attendance were treated to cake, lemonade, a live performance by Real De Jalisco Mariachi Band and a carnation for each Mom. Our patrons were delighted by the festivities and some were very moved by the celebration. Happy Mother’s Day!

Duct Tape Crafts at Ysleta



On Wednesday, May 9, 2012 the Duct Tape Crafts Presentation was held here at Ysleta Branch Library with staff member, Jennifer Montes. Seventeen of our patrons learned how to craft items using various colored and patterned duct tape. They made wallets, rings and flowers and one child was creative and constructed an airplane on his own. The possibilities are endless!

Free Comic Book Day




May 5, 2012 was Free Comic Book Day all across the nation and Ysleta Branch Library participated in this event. Free Comic Book Day was established in 2002 by the North American comic book industry to introduce everyone to the joys of reading comics, to call back former readers and to thank current comic book readers. Ysleta staff member, Carmen Hernandez, organized and coordinated this event for our patrons.

Tissue Paper Flowers II



On April 26, 2012 the Tissue Paper Flower Program was hosted by the Ysleta Branch Library. This was the second of the paper flower workshops presented by Ysleta staff member, Jessie Myers. She has been making paper flowers for many years now and has offered her tips and technique to the patrons of Ysleta. There was a good turnout and lots of fun & enjoyment.

Art Display


Ysleta has a new exhibit featured in the Display Case for our patron’s viewing enjoyment. This month there is an art display created by artist and YS staff member, Jessie Myers. On display are six pieces done in various media consisting of pastel, India ink and acrylic. They are titled “Peacock Feather”, two “Abstract Art”, the collage “Look Out Your Window”, India ink drawing “Panther” and oil pastel “Spanish Lady”. Cartooning at YS


Ysleta Branch Library presented the program, “Introduction to Cartooning” on April 11, 2012 with host Jose Fernandez. Jose is an EPPL staff member with a lifelong interest and experience in creating cartoon art. He brought his skill and expertise to move and inspire our Ysleta patrons to this form of creative medium. The attendees were shown how to take doodles and drawings from an idea into a fully developed character/caricature. There was indeed a gathering of artistic imagination!
